Making Dental Work Last

August 10, 2012

Thanks to a great cosmetic or restorative dentistry service, you’re enjoying better oral health than you have in a long time. What’s more, you gain a sense of confidence you didn’t used to have. Maybe you had one or more teeth replaced with dental implants or you had a tooth capped with a CEREC crown. Whatever your case, there’s one question on your mind now, and it’s an important: how can I make it last?

After all, a cosmetic or restorative service like one of these is an investment. And as with any investment, you want to protect it. So how can you do that?

Often, the best way is through regular exams and cleanings, in addition to brushing and flossing at home. That may come as a surprise, especially if you’ve had all your teeth replaced with dental implants, but it’s true. After all, your smile is still vulnerable to common problems like gum disease, oral cancer, TMJ dysfunction, and more.

Our best advice for you, then, is to treat your restored smile the way you would if it were your natural smile. Brush at least twice a day, floss at least once, and rinse with an effective mouthwash. Be sure you also stay in touch with Dr. Salivonchik. Regular visits are a key part of maintaining great oral health.

Do you need to schedule your next visit? Call Dr. Salivonchik’s Coplay dental office today to reserve your appointment. We serve patients from all around the Lehigh Valley area, including Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, The Poconos, and beyond.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

June 29, 2012

Often, when your dentist finds signs of tooth decay, a filling is the only treatment you need. In other cases, however, where decay is more extreme, a crown may be needed instead. But there are also in-between cases where a filling isn’t enough but a crown is too much. It’s in cases like these that dentists rely on inlays and onlays.

Inlays and onlays are milled, just like a crown, but instead of capping a tooth, they fit into a tooth the way a filling would. What’s more, because Dr. Salivonchik’s Coplay office features revolutionary CEREC technology, an entire inlay/onlay procedure can be completed in just a single visit.

Conservative Care with Inlays and Onlays

If Dr. Salivonchik has informed you that you need an inlay or an onlay, here’s what you can expect from your appointment.

First, Dr. Salivonchik will clean your tooth, removing any signs of decay or old fillings. Then, once that has been done and a digital impression has been taken, we’ll feed the information we’ve gathered to our CEREC machine. In just a short amount of time, our CEREC machine will mill your custom-made restoration while you rest comfortably in our office. Then, all that’s left is for Dr. Salivonchik to put your inlay or onlay in place, completing your procedure.

Do You Still Have Questions?

If you still have questions about how inlays or onlays can help you, call Dr. Salivonchik’s Coplay office to schedule a visit. Our office happily serves patients from Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, The Poconos, and beyond.

Do I Need a Porcelain Crown?

May 21, 2012

If you have a tooth that’s badly decayed, worn, cracked, or broken, you may need to have it restored with a porcelain crown. Using a crown, it’s possible for Dr. Salivonchik to return strength, structure, and function to a tooth that might otherwise have to be removed.

For your convenience, our Whitehall dental office uses CEREC technology to mill custom-made porcelain crowns in just a single visit. That’s something that sets us apart from other practices.

Traditionally, it’s taken at least two visits to complete a crown procedure. During the first procedure, an impression is taken of the patient’s tooth and a temporary crown is put in place. During the second, the procedure is completed with a permanent crown. In between that, though, it’s always possible another appointment could be needed if your temporary crown falls out or cracks.

With CEREC, the entire procedure can be reduced to just a single visit.

When you come in, Dr. Salivonchik will take a 3D image of the tooth we’ll be replacing. That information will be fed to our CEREC machine, which will start working on your tooth. Once it’s done, all that’s left is for us to put your crown in place and check the fit. That’s all there is to it!

If you’d like to know more about CEREC crowns from Dr. Salivonchik’s Whitehall dental office, visit our CEREC page or give us a call. We serve patients Whitehall, Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, The Poconos, and beyond.
